Event Details

Join us for a panel discussion on the experiences of women in government, challenges faced by women in the sector, and the importance of increased gender diversity. A Q&A will follow the discussion and refreshments will be provided.

JEANNE-MARIE COL, PhD is Associate Professor of Public Administration and Emergency Management at John Jay College of the City University of New York.

Panelists include:

COUNCIL MEMBER GALE A. BREWER, re-elected in November 2009, has been representing the Upper West Side and the northern part of Clinton in the New York City Council since 2002.

EDNA WELLS HANDY was appointed Commissioner of the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS)
in November 2010.

LOIS REDMAN-SIMMONS(WARNER), PhD has worked in the field of governance and public administration for the past eight years, as an assistant professor, senior research associate, and as a governance and public administration officer with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

SHEILA VOYARD serves as the First Deputy Director for Licensing for the Department of Consumer Affairs since January 3, 2011.

THE NEW YORK METROPOLITAN ASPA CHAPTER

The New York Metropolitan Chapter of ASPA (NY Metro ASPA), comprised of approximately 1800 members and supporters, offers a number of opportunities for professional development in the field of public administration.  NY Metro ASPA offers many Professional Development workshops to help its members learn, develop and network with other public service professionals at the city, federal and international level.  The Chapter recognizes the work of public servants and its community through its sponsorships, awards and fundraising opportunities. We endeavor to keep our members and public administration enthusiasts informed of public policies, community concerns, local and federal government news, community volunteer opportunities and issues of sustainable development.

We have outgrown our initial event space, over 100 people having already registered!  We will now hold the panel in Multipurpose Room 1-107 on the first floor of the Vertical Campus.

Please use the large revolving doors, or the accessible doorways on either side, to enter Baruch's Vertical Campus from 25th Street.  You will find the entrance about halfway between Third and Lexington Avenues.
